Practical Strategies for Teaching the Male Pilates Beginner
This workshop equips Pilates professionals with a practical framework for confidently introducing male clients to Pilates.
You'll explore the anatomical and biomechanical patterns common in men (think hip, shoulder, and thoracic restrictions from sport, strength training, or desk work), plus the psychological barriers that often hold them back, such as scepticism, self-consciousness, and uncertainty.

Darren Vizer - Principal Trainer
Darren has spent over 20 years teaching Pilates to men — helping them move better, get stronger, and stay injury-free, whether they're complete beginners or seasoned athletes.
Before Pilates, Darren spent decades as a professional dancer, gymnast, national champion trampolinist and horse rider, performing and choreographing with companies including Sydney Dance Company, Legs on the Wall, Australian Dance Theatre, Australian Folkloric Company, Transitions Dance Company, The Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, La Mama Theatre and Opera Australia. He holds a Master's degree in Choreography from the Victorian College of the Arts (now University of Melbourne), was awarded the Professional Pathways Scholarship and Artist in Residence at La Mama Theatre in 2015, and trained full-time in method acting at Ensemble Acting Studios.
That physical background is central to how Darren teaches men. Having spent 35+ years conditioning his own body for elite performance, he understands the male frame, strength patterns and movement habits from the inside out — and knows exactly how to translate that into a Pilates practice that makes sense to men who've never set foot in a studio.
Darren has practised Pilates since 1994, training first under the late Megan Williams, and later in the Classical Pilates method with Marda Wiley, a second-generation classical Pilates educator certified with NY and Romana's Pilates. He holds the Advanced Diploma in Pilates Practice and is a Principal Trainer and full member of the Pilates Alliance Australasia (PAA), having previously served on the PAA Board and presented at the Mind Body Conference.
He founded his first studio, Mr Pilates, in Sydney and Melbourne in 2006, and has worked across Pilates International studios as a manager, senior instructor and student supervisor. Today he leads Core Pilates, where he specialises in the full-body Pilates challenge — a whole-body workout designed to give every client, especially men new to Pilates, the complete, transformative experience the method can offer.
